Great Horned Owl, juvenile What a beautiful encounter. This young owl was out practicing his newly acquired skill of flying. He was gliding back and forth across the ravine when he spotted me. He didn't seem to be able to resist checking out this upright walking animal, and flew over to give me a look over. He hung out with me, about 30 yards away, for about a minute, before taking off. |

Great horned Owl This fella was surprisingly aloof. When I first spotted him, he was perched atop of a Saguaro about 60 yards away. I captured some images and moved closer. He would give me a look now and then, but seemed more intent on looking for some movement. I ended up getting about 10 feet from the cactus that he is sitting on. It always throws me off a little when these wild animals allow me to get so close, and I love it.
